Benchmark at default GPU frequency

My brother made a good point yesterday, why burn out your GPU and reduce life... well I've only been stressing my card a bit to see what difference overclocking can make... and as I dont even need it to perform so well with the current games I play since they are incredibly smooth anyway, i thought i would take my card back to defaults and not overclock it at all. However, I have my cpu still at 3Ghz and thanks to my liquid cooling it only heats to 47 degrees at full utilization during 3dmarks cpu tests... and even more interestingly, it takes about a few seconds to return to 33 degrees after the benchmark... so I am confident my cpu is happy and can be pushed even further should I choose to.
I'm using a gadget to monitor my cpu core activitity and it tells me all 4 cores are kicking at 100% during the test which is a relief to me as there's nothing worse than under utilizing your specs... core 3 and 4 for some reason are 1 degree higher in temperature than 1 and 2... (of course I'm not sure about the accuracy of these tools as yet..) So here it is... ATI radeon HD2900XT at factory default and overclocked
Q6600 cpu at 3GHz....

I think this card does well actually, and I have a sneaky suspicion than it will do ok once they optimize for DX10 and we get some good DX10 benchmarks out there... and then if needed... i will get rid of my stock cooler for the GPU and put some good cooling system in.

Notice something....???? SM2.0 results are actually higher on default than an earlier overclocked speed... this is probably because i've had my card to prioritize performance over quality... it only concludes to me that 3dmark at demo version will only judge based on the number of frames per second and not on the actual quality of what we see... which is ok i guess... coz i didnt notice any difference...at least at this level of 3D mark.... but i like this... these settings will do for now.

Overclocked

I've now overclocked my fsb from 266 to 300 MHz making my cpu clock at 2.7Ghz (it was 2.4 Ghz) My memory now runs at 750Mhz(1:1 ratio)....
3DMark scores:

Main Test Results
3DMark Score 11273 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 4395 Marks
SM 3.0 Score 4904 Marks
CPU Score 3852 Marks

On my stock settings I had a 3dMark score of 10700... so there is a difference so far... i shall run it for a while this way and then think of cranking up later...

Crysis Demo

I played and finished the Demo today... after all the hype about crysis and waiting for it... here's my verdict... it is everything and more than what i expected... absolutely stunning... such great fun it was... playing single player on it was soo much fun that for the first time in my life my girl friend even watched... love the detail... i'm sure it will be even better when the full release comes out since the demo uses only dx 9... great game... now i have no hesistation in buying it...

There are two batch files in the Crysis/Bin32 directory called cputest and gputest to see how many fps you get... I ran it with my current settings and got about 30-40 fps on avg... now i may think of overclocking and stuff to get more juice... but i dont know yet...
CPU TEST and GPU TEST IN ORDER:

dx10 benchmark

last night I ran a benchmark using DX 10 (Call of Juarez) and I have to tell you that I was spellbound at the textures I was seeing on the screen, absouletely stunning, the water, glass, sunrays and trees were life like, if not for the human characters in the video, I'd find it difficult to tell it was graphics... BUT!!! even on my what I consider high spec system, I only got 20 FPS on average and a max of 32 FPS. This is with the settings in High of course. I will now try to tweak the computer to see if I can get more juice out of it... but again I have to say... the textures... Stunning!!! Playing Farcry after that made me feel like I was playing on an old x386 or something... (which is ok i guess since Farcry was released 7 years ago)...

The Spirit of Discernment

For what will hopefully be a first of many entries to this blog, I thought I'd put down my thoughts. The Spirit of Discernment.
I first heard these words about 5 years ago, and as most stories go, didn't think much of it at the time. The idea of it came to me when contemplating about recent global issues, specifically, conflict between different types of people, violence and terrorism. Who is in the right? To whom does the Holy Land belong? Is it right for countries to occupy other countries in the name of humanity? Is it for humanity?
Whats the difference between peaceful and violent Christians, Budhists, Muslims and Hindus?
Its true that we are all brought up into the society that we are born into and that we have no control over that! So the most hard lined Muslim extremist, if born to Christian parents in a western country would have been a Christian. In the same way, a peaceful Budhist born in Thailand would probably been a violent Christian if born to hard lined Christians in Nigeria.
Needless to say, we have, for the most part, no say in what kind of society to which we will belong. Obviously this train of thought is not unique, and is often a significant contributing factor in the creation of atheists.
I believe God has put into every human being a Spirit of discernment, a knowledge between right and wrong, between good and evil. Regardless, of religion, nationality or society, we all possess this fundamental human attribute. Its up to us to see evil in existing societies and say no. Of course not always are we certain of the right thing to do. Personally, very rarely has this genuinely happened in my life, for the most part I've always known 'what the right thing to do' is. Having said that, there are lingering questions in my mind even now. But discernment has also been defined in the following way by www.vocations.ca:
Discernment is a process of prayerful reflection which leads a person or community to understanding of God's call at a given time or in particular circumstances of life. It involves listening to God in all the ways God communicates with us: in prayer, in the scriptures, through the Church and the world, in personal experience, and in other people.

Listening to God is something most of us rarely do, listening to what is right, is something we choose not to do.
